About TravlSaf

TravISaf was designed to empathize with our paranoid & worrisome audience. This app was created to prioritize our users safety first, ensuring a relaxing travel!

​

As a user researcher, I would like to explore how people currently decide their intended travel location and their lodging accommodations.

The Problem

Majority of travel sites do not provide enough safety information for travelers to eliminate any anxiety or uncertainty about their travels. 

The Objective

TravlSaf has one main objective for your travel excursions, to make sure you feel safe and secure as possible. 

The Solution

TravlSaf will provide more security and relief to travelers ensuring information about their location, news, local events, weather, lodging, and activities. 

TravlSaf will provide a wide array of information on the location you wish to travel to and accommodate all your lodging needs so you can feel as safe as possible, for the best price possible. This travel app will also be convenient for travel all over the country.

Proto Persona

I wanted to form a deeper understanding of our users' goals, needs, experiences, and behaviors. So, I created a proto persona for each of our user segments. I used this persona to steer my initial ideas.

Competitor Research

User Interviews

I started with 5 user interviews, this helped me understand what users need to feel safe and comfortable when deciding where they would like to travel and stay.

For each interview, I asked 7 open-ended questions, along with Five Whys method.

3 out 5 interviewers were men.

Common answers: Travel costs, travel with family or friends, planning ahead, & enjoying oneself.

"So going through a travel agency that plans and schedules, what you're going to do where and when that can be a little bit more important if you're going overseas, but in the states tend not to have that problem."
"The key factor is well it's got to be a reputable hotel chain to get reviews because I do look at reviews. I do not like hotels with rooms that you can enter directly from the outside."

User Persona

From insights gathered I can now form a deeper understanding of our users' goals, needs, and experience.

Meet Malcom Washington, he is a 32 year old software developer who enjoys traveling with his family and friends.

Malcolm wants to find out as much information he can about a travel location or stay, so he feels safe traveling and for a great price.

 

Primary demographic is in the 30-45 age range.

DESIGN

I began the design process with low-fidelity sketches and wireframes to accelerate decision-making through visualization. My sketches were based on the initial user interviews.

Next in the design process, I created low-fidelity wireframes to accelerate decision-making through visualization without losing time.

Low-Fidelity Prototype

Using Figma, I translated my first sketches into low-fidelity wireframes. At this stage, the wireframes were defined enough for some user testing. Based on 5 user tests, I’ve made a few iterations and moved on to creating high-fidelity prototypes.

First High-Fidelity Prototype

Started to really look into the design and how the app would flow. Decided the color scheme passed on typically colors you see outside (yellow - sun / blue - sky). Went back to the calendar homepage, and added permission screens, cart screens, and detail screens.

From user testing I learned:

  • The calendar homepage was confusing, the user wanted to choose their start

  • The ‘Destination’ was confusing for users

  • Scannable

  • Add a more detailed bottom bar, so user could navigate better

  • Select & de-select some buttons

  • Splash screen was a little much

Final High-Fidelity Prototype

Using user feedback, I designed a modern, consistent, and simplistic design:

  • Changed the logo to express a comforting vibe

  • Changed the color scheme, to one general color (blue)

  • Spaced content out more so users can focus easily

  • Improved the navigation and bottom bar to help users flow easier

  • Added the date content and a welcome message for the user

  • Changed screen layouts to help with some confusion

PROTOTYPE

FUTURE RESEARCH

Probably would add way more instructions within the app, to make sure the user gets the most information that is presented. Some features could get overlooked.
